My first GCSE photography shoot at St gregs is unusual portraiture, these are some examples or unusual portraiture.
portraiture edits - initial ideas
These are a couple of photos I have taken for my first portraiture shoot.
favourite photo
This is my favourite photo out of my first portraiture shoot.
this is my final piece because the darkness really brings out the facial features of this person and his face shows anger and strength closely as his whole face is emphasized because its engulfed in darkness.
Lines shoot
The use of vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines in street photography directs the eye to certain parts of the photo highlighting what your trying to photograph.
My lines shoot went well, I photographed most of them in the dark which brought out the lines and helped to create better photos but also shooting with flash reflected off most off the lines whether they were vertical or diagonal and pin-pointed where they were and lifted them from the background.
Rule of Thirds shoot
These are some examples of rule of thirds, rule of thirds helps to split the photo up into 3 parts normally the background, mid-ground and foreground.

Human Condition
My topic is abandonment
The reason I picked abandoned areas to shoot was because I think I could get some really intriguing photos and I would enjoy to take pictures of things most people don't see and are neglected from the outer world.
Alicia Ruis
I chose Alicia Ruis as an example of abandonment people her photos really pulled me in and I thought they would be a good example to show the kind of photos I will be taking.
My first shoot - composition
My first abandoned shoot went well, I went to a huge house that is being rebuilt and a park near my house with lots of rusty things there which was good for close up shots.
Summary: This shoot was good I got some decent close up shots but there wasn't much interesting to photograph other than rusting metals and decay.
In Depth Analysis - shoot 1
IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS The title of this piece is unusual places. It is by Alicia Ruis . It was created in 2017. It is an example of abandoned photography. The composition shows the gloomy dead sky towering over the plane. There is a slight tint of light coming from the white cloud from above and the colourful ground below. The light looks dead because its an edit but it is clearly light or the flowers and clouds wouldn't be so visible . The focal point (most important/eye-catching part) of the image is the rusting old plane with the dark blue sheet being pulled back by the wind. It is placed just over the top of the plane where you would enter it.The techniques used here are warm lighting to bring out the colours and the shine of the metal. The colours in the image are warm and dark which brings out the red in the roses, the depth and darkness of the sky and the shine off the metal of the plane. The patterns I can see in the image are the movement of the sky as there is clearly a long exposure on the camera to bring out the colour of the plants and the sky . The lines in the image outstand clearly around the plane and the telephone wires, it separates the dull sky from the colourful grass. The texture in the picture looks soft in the sky and ground but hard and sharp on the edges of the planes . The photographer has used a traditional DSLR camera on long shutter speed to bring out colours and create a mixed photo. The image makes me feel young as it looks really old and abandoned.
shoot 2 - fore-ground, mid-ground, background
For my second shoot me and my mates went to box mines and adventured deep into the mines, we didn't explore any where near all of it so we are planning on going back soon and searching deeper into the mines.
In Depth Analysis - shoot 2
The title of this piece is Box Mines. It is by some photographer that visited box mines 4 times over a year. It was created in 2016. It is an example of how torch light can outline objects. The composition shows the red colour of the metal and the stray paint all around the blocked up entrance. The darkness on the other side of the metal barrier is seen through a little hole in the gauze which is completely jet black and looks intriguing. The light is clearly from a torch but is limited just to the centre of the photo and is blocked by the barrier so you cant see much of the other side. The focal point (most important/eye-catching part) of the image is the barrier an d spray paint as its the most colourful and obvious part of it. It is placed right in the centre of the photo the same way the light is shining, The techniques used here are controlled lighting to bring out the colours of the paint and to show the depth behind the barrier with darkness. The colours in the image are warm bright and very obvious so they stand out. The patterns I can see in the image are all leading up the whole as if the walls and wood under Neath the hole are all pointing to enter further into the mines. The lines in the image draw your eye towards the path and wooden plank leading through the hole to get past the barrier. The texture in the picture looks soft because of the torch light. The photographer has used the photographer has used a traditional DSLR camera on normal shutter speed to create a focused photo on the caging with the torchlight shining softly. The image makes me feel intrigued to see what's on the other side in the darkness and makes me want to visit this part of the mines.
shoot 3 - lighting
For my third shoot for the abandonment project I went to these two derelict buses one was a double decker and the other a single I got some good photos although it was quite dark...
In Depth Analysis - shoot 3
The title of this piece is 1972 Ford Mustang. It is by Pony Withers. It was created in 2011. It is an example of abandoned photography and lighting. The composition shows the bonnet of the mustang and lights but the rest of the photo is black this means the lighting is coming from behind the vehicle . There is a light being cast against the wall from what I assume to be a window on the right of the room which we cannot see. The light looks natural and I assume it is a sunny day outside. The focal point (most important/eye-catching part) of the image is… The wall behind the sofa, although it is largely made up of negative space. It is placed… in the right hand diagonal dividing the image from bottom left to top right The techniques used here are… natural lighting, angle and height, negative space, a warm white balance, deep depth of field (possibly around f16. The colours in the image are… warm and mostly yellow with a range of tone which gets darker towards the top of the picture. The patterns I can see in the image are… created by the cushions on the sofa along the bottom of the photograph and also the grid created by the natural light coming in through the window. The lines in the image... draw your eye towards the top right hand corner and are caused by the sofa, the light and the lampshade. The texture in the picture looks... soft on the sofa, solid and smooth on the wall and ruffled in the lampshade. The photographer has used… a traditional DSLR camera has been used I believe, as it was taken in the 2000s to create… an abstract image of the interior of her house. The image makes me feel… relaxed and spacious on a warm summers day. The image feels warm and peaceful and has a slightly dream-like qua
shoot 4 - personal
For my forth shoot I split it into two my first part was photos in Sydney gardens of old stone and structures that had been spray painted and I got some of my mates in the photos,
Personal shoot - write up
For my forth shoot (personal shoot) I decided to take photos of my mates, so I split it into 2 shoots one with Zion outside school and another with a couple of my mates in Sydney gardens. I chose to do this because it was my personal shoot so why not takes photos of my mates as I spend a lot of time outside school with them. I experimented with different angles and took photos of different parts of the body i.e; legs, feet, shoulder and head. Also after I edited some photos to different colours and black/white. The angles and photographing only certain parts of the body has worked well for my final images. Nothing went wrong in my shoots but next time id try to take more photos of different people to mix it up a bit. I came up with this idea but seeing other photographs from photographers using angles and taking photos from different heights definitely influenced me to take these photos.

Light and Dark
I have picked light and dark as my project and im basing my photos off two artists; Brassai and Rut Blees Luxemberg these artists include both light and dark into their photos and I also aim to do this in different ways using shutter speed and aperture. Something I worked a lot on in beechen Cliff was light trails from cars or just torch lights, adjusting the aperture to change the lighting and slowing the shutter speed to take longer photos letting all the light that's passing ur camera in and creating lines of light on the final photo.
